Talk in Code: bright sounds breezing across the Wiltshire Downs

Talk in Code : Resolve: album review by Chris Watson, March 2019

Talk in Code’s second album, “Resolve”, accompanied me on a lone starlit late-night drive across Salisbury Plain last week, on my way home from the second date of their “Resolve” album launch tour of March 2019 at the Cellar Bar in Devizes.

This Swindon-based band has a real depth of musical layering behind their bright music: Al Sneddon’s chiming guitar and synth-programming conjure a mellifluous backdrop for the driven, melodic bass lines of Mark Turner, spirited drumming of Jamie O'Sullivan and airy voice of Chris Stevens, combining to create an infectious and dance-able soundscape, which breezed across the rolling Wiltshire Downs and blew away the grime of Swindon into a shimmering emotional space.

With well-crafted songs such as the gently bubbling "Oxygen", this band need to play on bigger stages in future and have already played alongside acts such as Catfish & the Bottlemen, Jesus Jones, My Life Story, Embrace and Toploader; as well as 80’s sensations, Marc Almond, Howard Jones and Go West! Festival appearances have also been at the Walled Garden, Jurassic Fields, Lechlade, Osfest and Wychwood, adding to their ever-growing profile.

Also recommend their excellent live performance in the Visual Radio Arts Soundcheck studio in April 2018 and can be seen at: http://www.visualradioarts.co.uk/wp/project/talk-in-code/
