The Power of Great Music!

Music Eye looks for that indefinable something... that edge that sparks our passion and fires our imagination.

In the 70’s and 80’s The Jam fired up a whole generation! Driven young men writing passionate songs about their audience’s lives and feelings which created a bond. They were powerful, energetic sounds presented in stylish suits with an edge that set them apart from the rabble and showed they meant business!*

Were they Mods? Or Punks with style? It didn’t matter. They created that unique stance which gave them eighteen consecutive Top 40 singles until they stopped at the peak of their popularity. Their cutting edge songs with lyrics that are as relevant today as they were then, which says something about the human condition!

There are so many great songs with lyrics we can easily understand and identify with; songs that stay with us through our lifetime. Eg. The Jam’s “Going Underground”, Sting’s “Message in a Bottle”, Patti Smith’s “People have the Power” , U2’s “New Years Day” Refined poetic mastery – not swearing! Clever words igniting images, powerful feelings and swaying viewpoints. Musician, Artist, Poet, Magician, Paradigm-shifter…!

So, can you use your talent to write the lyrics which say something profound? Lyrics which make a difference? That speak out for us? A song that drives and inspires? That makes the journey with us through life? And, of course, with the initial great hook to reel us in!

Collaboration may be the key? Remember that Bob Dylan’s song “All Along The Watchtower” only became a legend with Jimi Hendrix on guitar and vocals, and Roger Daltrey was nothing without the band!
